UBERTO PASOLINI’S MACHAN WINS VENICE EUROPA CINEMAS LABEL
06/09/2008
Uberto Pasolini’s Machan has won the Europa Cinemas Label as Best European film in the Giornate degli Autori/Venice Days section of the Venice Film Festival, it was announced today by the jury of four Europa Cinemas exhibitors – the fifth year the Label has been awarded in the section.
Machan will now receive the support of the Europa Cinemas exhibitors who commit themselves to extend the length of its run on screen and additional promotion across the network. The Europa Cinemas jury of exhibitors consisted of Ana Christina Santos (DCA, Dundee/UK); Mario Lorini (Garibaldi, Poggibonsi/Italy); Fredrik Jönsson (Folkets Bio, Lund/Sweden) and Alexander Syllaba (Cinema Paradiso, St. Pölten/Austria).
The Jury issued the following statement about the film, "Immigration is a very real issue in Europe today and this is an enjoyable, well written and well directed film that makes its point with humour and without lapsing into cheap sentimentality. We feel that this can attract and entertain a wide audience around Europe and contribute to discussions of this important subject."
