Emmanuel Mouret

Teenage film fan Emmanuel Mouret moved from Marseille, his home city, to Paris and started studying dramatic arts, he did all kinds of tasks on film sets, and entered the FEMIS (direction department). The prestigious film school, where he graduated in 1998, allowed him to shoot a number of short films and a medium length film, Promène-toi donc tout nu!, his graduating film, which was released in theaters in 1999.
After this brilliant debut, an elegant comedy which received critical acclaim, he started to impose his personal style.
Successor of Rohmer, Guitry and Woody Allen, the director interprets, as do they, the main character in his films, a naïve and clumsy young man. So he alongside Marie Gillain he embodied, the hero of his first feature length film, Laissons Lucie faire , released in theaters in 2000. It will take Mouret another four years to make his next movie, Vénus et Fleur, a portrait of two young women who are searching for their soul mates. The comedy was selected at Cannes in the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs section, as was, two years later, Changement d’adress, a charming remark on romantic stubbornness and on the suppleness of the heart.
